On 23 February 2021, Sikkha Asia Foundation officers distributed rice, food, and hand sanitizers at two educational institutions in Samut Sakhon Province.
The first one is the “Thai-Mon Wat Kok Center”. 70 children of the Mon ethnic group from Myanmar attend this school. At the moment, face-to-face classes have been canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. Therefore the children need to stay at home with homework that they have been given from the center. Furthermore, the children usually eat meals at the center, but due to the school closure, they do not have enough calorie intake at home. It makes some of the students receive the school lunch from the center.
The second facility is the “Sirimongkol Temple School”, which has 200 students, more than 90% of whom are children of migrant worker’s families. According to the principal, even before the pandemic, there was a problem that some children not eating breakfast and relying on school lunches due to poverty. The pandemic exacerbates the problem because the school was closed. At present, the center has prepared and distributed meals to the children. However, teachers have been worried about how the situation goes.
